Liberals SCRAMBLE for Canadian oil as global crisis hits

By Kirk Farquhar

After years of stifling Canadian energy production, the Liberal government is now asking Canadian oil producers how quickly they can increase output. Energy Minister Tim Hodgson has reportedly reached out to industry leaders as the conflict involving Iran threatens global supply through the Strait of Hormuz. The sudden push for more Canadian oil is raising questions about why Ottawa didn’t prepare for this scenario sooner. Marc Patrone is joined by Coalition of Concerned Manufacturers and Businesses of Canada executive director Ves Sobot to discuss the Liberals’ apparent energy policy reversal, Canada’s untapped oil potential, and what it means for energy security and future trade negotiations with the United States.
