Canada’s auto sector hit with major blow
Canada’s economy is showing troubling signs as new data reveals a 21% drop in vehicle exports in January, pushing exports of vehicles and parts to their lowest level since the pandemic. Overall Canadian exports fell 4.7%, while the country’s trade deficit nearly tripled compared to December.
At the same time, Conservative Leader Pierre Poilievre is travelling to the United States, with planned stops in Detroit, Houston and New York City, where he says he’ll meet with auto and energy leaders to strengthen Canada–U.S. trade ties and defend an integrated North American economy.
Coalition of Concerned Manufacturers and Businesses of Canada founder Jocelyn Bamford joins Marc Patrone to discuss the alarming export numbers, the state of Canada’s manufacturing sector, and whether Poilievre’s U.S. trip could help restore confidence with Canada’s largest trading partner.
