Vaughan’s Mayor on Trade Wars, Housing & Safety

On this episode of Canadian Innovators, host Ves Sobot talks with Vaughan Mayor Steven Del Duca. Del Duca has led the carpenters union, served as an MPP and Ontario’s Minister of Transportation, and led the Ontario Liberal Party.
They talk about why Vaughan keeps drawing investment. The city has a direct subway link to Toronto, GO rail, major rail yards and quick access to Pearson Airport and the 400-series highways. Del Duca explains his approach of supporting entrepreneurs without burying them in red tape. He also describes the Vaughan Business and Entrepreneurship Centre, how Vaughan changed its procurement rules to favour Canadian and local suppliers during the trade war, and his nine-project plan to fight traffic gridlock.
As he runs for a second term, Del Duca lays out his top priorities: affordability, transportation, housing and community safety.
