Ontario Premier Doug Ford issued a pre-emptive warning against that while speaking

with reporters on Monday. "You can’t even think of raising these interest rates cause you’re

killing the economy, you’re killing middle-class families,” Ford said. “It’s just not acceptable.

”Earlier this month, Ford joined with British Columbia Premier David Eby and Premier Andrew Furey

of Newfoundland and Labrador in writing to Macklem to request an end to the rate hikes.

While premiers have no official role with the Bank of Canada, each of them stressed the impact rate hikes

were having on family budgets.
