#DYK imported aluminum, REGARDLESS of whether it is produced using
power generated from carbon-rich coal or gas, is NOT subject to ANY
carbon taxes in Canada. However, Canadian manufacturers using aluminum
produced with power generated from CLEAN and RENEWABLE hydroelectricity
ARE subject to carbon taxes in Canada.
How is that fair to Canadian manufacturers? Shouldn’t a carbon tax be applied
at the port of entry for imports?
